Place a call now

Start a call right away, follow it as it happens, and find the recording afterward.

You don't have to wait for the usual time. Call now starts a call straight away, which is the easiest way to do the first call while you are sitting with them.

Start the call

  1. In the menu, select Home for the person you want to call. (If you have more than one person, choose them from the list at the top of the menu first.)

  2. Select Call now at the top right.

Their phone usually rings within a few seconds, but it can take up to a minute while Rosie gets ready.

Follow the call

While the call is happening, a Right now card on Home shows where it is, and updates on its own every few seconds:

What you see What it means
Getting the call ready Rosie is getting set up.
Calling now The call is being placed.
Ringing Their phone is ringing.
On the call They answered. The card shows how long they have been talking.
Wrapping up The call has ended and is being saved.

You can leave the page open or close it; the call carries on either way.

After the call

The session appears under Sessions within about a minute of the call ending, with a short recap. The recording, the stories drawn from it, and the plan for the next call usually follow within another minute or two. Stories are only drawn from calls that last longer than a minute.

If they don't pick up

If the call is not answered, or reaches voicemail, Rosie hangs up without leaving a message. The attempt is listed under Sessions, on the All calls tab (for example "Voicemail answered" or "No answer"), and Home shows The last call did not connect under Needs you.

When Call now isn't available

Call now only appears once you have confirmed permission in the setup. If you select it and see a message instead of a ringing phone, it is usually one of these:

  • It's outside their hours. Calls only happen on the days and hours you chose for them, and between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. their time.
  • A call just happened. Leave twenty minutes after the last call ends, whether or not it was answered. If you try sooner, the message shows the remaining wait and Call now counts it down. An administrator of your family can select Call again now, enter a reason, and confirm an earlier call. The administrator, reason and time are recorded. This only overrides the wait; calling hours, permission and existing bookings still apply.
  • A scheduled call is coming up. If their usual call is less than 45 minutes away, let that one happen instead.
  • A call is already in progress.

Tip: A call placed with Call now is not tried again if it goes unanswered. Scheduled calls get one retry about twenty minutes later.
